Since purchasing Wisteria Gardens, venue improvements, and enhancements have been an ongoing process around the farm. It has been a labor of love, and we are constantly discussing and visualizing new ideas to make our guests feel welcome. Today, we want to share some of the projects we’ve tackled in the past three years.
New Garage Door
Our barn originally had traditional large painted garage doors on the north and south ends. They were often opened to allow in the natural light. This worked great when the weather cooperated; however, being in NW Washington, the weather can sometimes be unpredictable. On the north end of the barn, with views of the silo and gardens, we replaced the original door with a gorgeous fully paneled glass door. The increase of natural light inside the barn and the visual exposure to the outside has truly elevated the feel of the venue and is a huge statement piece. We have received great feedback from photographers and clients alike. It is probably our favorite improvement at the venue thus far.
Landscaping, Flower Pots, and Garden Planter Boxes
Landscaping projects never slow down! We spend many hours planning, researching, discussing, and ultimately deciding what will thrive on the property and produce a colorful and captivating backdrop for our clients from spring through fall. In addition to our wisteria trellis and flower bed below it, we try to incorporate pops of color throughout the venue using pots and some of our unique antique yard art. Lastly, our flower and vegetable garden has received a makeover with new planting boxes and plentiful flowers, including dahlias, sunflowers, zinnias, and lavender.
From wisteria to flower pots to planter boxes, we strive to ensure everything related to landscaping is picture-perfect!
Brides Getting Ready Room
Our farm is known for being rustic chic, but we wanted the bride’s room to be special. Our very first project as venue owners was remodeling the bride’s room. We removed everything from the space. With a clean slate, we put on a fresh coat of paint, installed new flooring, and added a curtained changing area and a slab quartz vanity counter. In addition, we improved the lighting and purchased all new furniture and accessories. Our aim was to create something feminine, luxurious, and comfortable for our lovely brides and their nearest and dearest.
Fruit Tree Orchard
Our newly planted fruit tree orchard will be a joy for our guests for years to come! We have planted many saplings and look forward to seeing them blossom! In the future, we are excited about a bountiful orchard and another beautiful location for photos!
New String Lights
Only some of our wedding guests want to be on the dance floor all night! As an alternative, we noticed people like to gather near the silo and around our fire pit. With that knowledge and a request from a client, it was clear to us that we should extend our string light feature from the interior to the exterior. Additional string lights were hung on the north end of the barn, adding ambiance as well as illuminating our most popular grand exit route for amazing pictures!
Painted Interior Corrugated Wall
While we love the exterior red of our barn, it is not always the most complimentary color for wedding photos during the reception. With our guests in mind, we decided to change the color of the most photographed wall inside the barn. We polled our social media followers and decided on a lovely grey tone that offers a more neutral pallet and works wonderfully with any wedding or event decor.
New Shelves in the Decor Room
It is a pleasure to offer our wedding couples the use of our decor supply. We have so many unique pieces, and it is amazing to see the different ways they are put to use. Unfortunately, the original decor room was hard to utilize, so we moved the location and built narrow shelving to display our vast variety of options. This has allowed our clients to quickly see what they have to choose from and has helped keep everything organized.
Refinished Live Edge Table
Our live edge table is a popular amenity used as a dessert or appetizer station, gift table, photo display, or bar. After years of use, it needed a little TLC. In December 2022, we had it stripped, leveled, smoothed, and finished to bring it back to all of its original beauty.
New Signage
As we all know, finding and navigating a business we’ve never been to has the potential to be stressful and frustrating. That’s the last thing we wish for our clients and their guests. Since we are a bit more remote and people are often unfamiliar with Fidalgo island, we wanted to alleviate this stress with new signage! We have added lighting to our large sign on Gibraltar road for easy locating.
In addition, we started to replace and include other signs around the property to create a cohesive appearance and easy navigation for everyone attending an event at our beautiful venue.
Parking Lot Improvements
Finally, our parking lot area received a significant transformation! What was once a grass field, we leveled, graveled, and increased the capacity. We also improved the drainage. All of these projects have greatly improved the ease of and access to our venue for use year around.
We are so excited to continue to make venue improvements around the property! We have an ongoing list and always look for ways to enhance our guests’ experience. Schedule a tour if you would like to learn more about holding your wedding or special celebration at Wisteria Gardens!
